About Us
We are a registered Scottish charity started in 2002
We are a community led project based in Shetland
Background
The formation of Dogs Against Drugs (In memory of John) stemmed from a growing concern within Shetland of the effects of the misuse of illegal drugs on the whole community, but in particular on children and young adults following a spate of deaths within this age group.
The seeds for the idea of drugs detection dogs, permanently based in Shetland, were sewn in the minds of two of the founding members, Ian and Janet Davidge after a trip to Faroe. There they were met at the airport by a sniffer dog with its customs handler, which passively scanned them for illegal drugs. This idea was then taken back to Shetland and eventually implemented by the community and operationally managed by the local police.
